Audi is working on its first mass production car and it is not surprising that it will get the shape of an SUV. Audi hints at the arrival of an all-electric SUV with Audi e-tron Quattro at 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show. Like the concept version, the new electric SUV will be sized between Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 models but will not carry Audi Q6 name as originally thought.
Instead, the new model will arrive as an 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro Electric Suv and a prototype version has been seen while undergoing pre-production tests. This model seems to be close to the form of production ready but the US launch is expected at the end of 2018. Audi promises two more electric models by 2020 including Sportback e-tron version and a rival brand for BMW i3.
2019 Audi e-tron Quattro Electric Suv : Design
Based on what we hide from spy photos, 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro Electric Suv will get inspiration from e-tron concept car but will also share many design cues with the recently updated SUV. The production version will look slimmer and lower than the current brand SUV and will be sized like the concept version between Audi Q5 and Audi Q7.
The front of the model seems to have a grid design that is slightly different from the concept model while the headlights share a modern design concept with a few tweaks. From the profile, the model will be determined with a slightly sloping roofline and pronounced beltline. This profile is more sporty than current brand SUV models and for some levels like the coupe but the associated Sportback e-tron version will arrive after this model and with a coupe-like profile. The back of the model seems to have a carved tailgate and taillights are similar to concept cars. The sharp rear glass and tailgate spoiler also add sports design cues.
2019 Audi e-tron Quattro Electric Suv : Interior
As for the cabin design, it is expected to attract inspiration from the A8 sedan. Horizontal oriented dashboards will have many screens and some physical controls. The new generation virtual cockpit design will, of course, be present as well as many Audi luxury features. This model also presumes leadership at the level of autonomous driving technology that will move to the next class with this model.
2019 Audi e-tron Quattro Electric Suv : Powertrain
Powering 2019 Audi e-tron Quattro Electric Suv will be the same setup as Audi in the e-tron concept. An electric motor will move the wheel while two units will be provided for the rear. Audi says that the concept powertrain can provide 429 hp and the same number must be reachable for the production version.
On the other hand, the report also suggested an entry-level variant with a single motor for each axle. But also a stronger version will be available. What is important for electric cars is, of course, electric range. Audi promises all electric models when battery technology reaches capabilities for 300+ miles. The concept model has a 95-kWh battery and is promised to range up to 310 miles. That figure is for the European cycle but is estimated to be at least 250 miles for the US version.
